FAQs
CARING FOR YOUR JEWELLERY
Will my jewellery tarnish?
To ensure your jewellery lasts as long as possible, please ensure you avoid harsh chemicals, hot water, and any products that can react with the metal or stones and cause oxidation or discolouration. The best way to avoid oxidation is to wear your jewellery! The longer a piece sits unworn, the more likely it is to oxidise or discolour.
Overtime and with wear, metals can develop a patina, altering the appearance slightly. At KiKA, I believe these changes bear the marks of your adventures, and aren’t necessarily a bad thing :)
Will my jewellery discolour my skin?
Some bodies react to certain metals, some don't. Every body is different! Everything from hand sanitiser, sunscreen or perfume can affect how your skin reacts to jewellery. I recommend keeping your jewellery away from too many of these products and you shouldn’t have any reaction.
What’s the best way to clean my jewellery?
If you notice your KiKA jewellery has oxidised/tarnished, a little bit of dish soap and an old toothbrush can go a long way. if you prefer a more polished look, a jewellery polishing cloth can help as well.
What are KiKA pieces made of?
KiKA jewellery is made from brass, 925 sterling silver or 9ct gold. All casted metals are RJC (Responsible Jewellery Council) certified.
Where are your pieces made?
All KiKA pieces are handmade in my home studio in Sydney, Australia.
Do you repair jewellery?
I only accept repairs for original KiKA pieces that are damaged as a result of faulty production rather than wear and tear. Repairs are at the discretion of KiKA staff, and determined on a case by case basis. I do not accept exchanges or returns for custom and special order jewellery items. These are all final sale.
What’s the difference between brass & gold?
While brass is a more affordable option to get that ‘gold’ look for less, it does have some notable differences to be aware of prior to purchasing.
Gold is a precious metal, and as a result, it comes with a higher price point. Gold is generally brighter and more yellow in appearance. Brass will tarnish- how quickly it tarnishes depends on many factors (how often it’s worn, what you put on your skin, etc). I work predominantly in 9ct gold because it is more affordable and durable than 24ct gold, making it a great option for everyday wear that will last without tarnishing.
If you’re looking for long lasting, heirloom pieces that won’t tarnish, go for gold! If you’re looking for a more affordable piece to add to your jewellery collection to mix and match, brass is a great option.
How do I care for pieces with stones?
There should be no reason the stone should come loose from your jewellery. The most likely reason a stone would fall out of a piece is because the setting has been damaged from wear. As such, it’s recommended to take your KiKA jewellery off while doing any sort of strenuous exercise/use of tools.

AVAILABILITY
Why are many of your pieces only available as one off’s?
Many KiKA pieces are one of a kind and only available as a one off. I aim to source stones from small scale sellers, or they are upcycled from vintage jewellery. As a result, I may only have one or two of those particular styles available.
If there’s a one off piece available that you have your eye on, go for it! It may not be available for restock at a later date.
